«The fear of spontaneously undertaking something is gone».

Our BROs jet all over Europe and spare no corners. José, one of our first BRO drivers, has explored Italy and Sicily with his power wheelchair.

Beach walk

«I was able to drive BRO almost to the waterside, so I could play in the sand with my children,» José tells us about his beach holidays in Italy. His highlight is that he no longer has to watch his children from a distance but can go with them all the way to the water. «For them, it’s the greatest thing to have their father with them everywhere again,» he enthusiastically continues. Driving on firm sand works very well, but: «In soft sand, the wheels can sink in.»

Driving in sand

The Scewo BRO power wheelchair can be driven on various surfaces such as snow, gravel, or sand. However, special care should be taken when doing so. You should always drive at a slow pace and not drive on surfaces where the wheelchair can sink in – for example, deep snow or loose sand.

New perspectives

In addition to his beach holidays, he visited various producers throughout Italy and Sicily last year for his specialty shop La Peppina AG. Many of the machines, such as grinders, are not made for wheelchair users: «In the past, my partner always had to film everything that was explained, and I watched the videos afterward so I could see inside the machines.» Thanks to BRO, this is a thing of the past: «With the seat lift, I can now see everything from the perspective of a pedestrian and no longer from the one of a child. For me, this feature is one of the best things about BRO.» Besides the productions, José has also visited olive and orange plantations – no problem with BRO.

BRO as an eye-catcher

During his trip, the Italian stairs were also not overlooked. Many Italian cities have staircases made of natural stone that lead to churches and houses. One of them leads to his favorite restaurant: «When we came down the stairs to the restaurant, everyone stopped eating» José recalls this moment of unusual attention. It’s probably because many people in Italy don’t (yet) know BRO and are surprised by the special vehicle. He explains to himself the great curiosity. BRO has also attracted a lot of attention on the street. Especially on the beach, José says: «Every wheelchair user asked me where I got this from.» He hopes that BRO will soon be known everywhere and that he will be able to cruise along the beach undisturbed.

Carefree traveling

One of the best things for José, however, is that the fear of spontaneously undertaking something is gone: «In the past, we had to plan our trips very precisely and also always had to pick out the restaurants in advance. Today I visit catacombs, go to golf courses, and can visit producers that are only accessible by stairs.» Besides all the newfound freedom, there is only one small disadvantage: getting out of the car today takes more space than his manual wheelchair. However, the positive aspects clearly outweigh the disadvantages for José.
After Italy, his next adventure with the power wheelchair Scewo BRO is already waiting: «As soon as circumstances allow, I will visit my family in northern Spain.»

We are looking forward to the next travel report and wish you a safe journey!

In the video, José tells you how he experiences his everyday life with BRO and who he recommends the power wheelchair to.
